Locum Program

Nova Scotia’s provincial locum program provides temporary support to doctors who are already practicing in communities throughout Nova Scotia. Locum physicians deliver quality care to the patients of physicians who must be away from their practices due to education, maternity, vacation, illness or other types of leave.

Physician Recruitment

Successful physician recruitment and retention is an important and continuing initiative. In Nova Scotia doctors, health care professionals, district health authorities, and communities all work together to provide Nova Scotians with the health care services they need. Each District Health Authority (DHA) identifies on an ongoing basis the family practice and specialty positions that are available.
